If you're in the mood for something with an incoherent plot and is about 15 minutes too long, grab some popcorn and load this one up. It feels like every 20 minutes there's a ridiculous shift in the story and in the end I couldn't even tell you what the hell it all meant. I guess I could... but the point is it just fell flat. The only thing consistent about the movie was Gugino's best efforts and although there were glimpses of 'oh that was kind of cool', it took me 3 nights to finish this because it was such a slog. It wasn't as complex as it wanted to be and I just can't see myself ever bothering to watch it again.

Today we delve into a few sauces; Neil's Real Deal - Smoked Onion & Grace's Very Hot Habanero. We're pairing that with Cocaine Werewolf and the all-timer, Tusk! Cocaine Werewolf is... somethin'. It sure as hell isn't Cocaine Bear but it wasn't as bad as Cocaine Shark (same director). It sound weird saying all of that out loud but anyway. I've seen Tusk several times and for me, it's always awesome. The story tends to get harped on, and for decent reason, but for a gut-wrenching body horror, it's excellent. Hard not to love something Kevin Smith directs, especially with that cast and idea. ______________ Grace's Habanero is very basic and slightly bland. It's a poor man's tobasco, but with Habanero. It has fair heat and is more than fine to splash on misc foods in a pinch, but overall it has no depth and isn't pleasing to the palate. Enter Neil's Smoked Onion - This sauce is very addictive but essentially zero heat. It's one trend that drives me nuts about hot sauces post-Covid. Brands advertise sauces with Habs or Ghosts etc, but they put so little into the sauce that it would barely pass for mild. You sometimes still pay a premium price for 'hotter' sauces, too, when it's just a glorified (and significantly smaller bottle) BBQ/whatever sauce. Still, on nachos this sauce worked and I actually think this would SLAY on Indian or Thai food as well. Directed by: Christopher Smith Starring: Rose Williams, Tim McInnerny, Avani Gregg Go Horror Rating: C It ain't Arachnophobia but it was a good time. Boring in the sense that it's yet another movie set in a resort with annoying attendees but at least the core group carried the weight well. A reasonable story even if it had a few holes and the spiders were well done. They certainly had some well-earned kills and I may or may not have been rooting for them at certain points.

Directed by: Emily Bennett, Justin Brooks Starring: Emily Bennett, David Call, Brendan Sexton III Go Horror Rating: B Awesome film... very deliberate and disturbing. I do feel like I preferred the first half but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it all the way through. Bennett was excellent! Culty, beautiful and brutal with a satisfying ending. Loved it!

Directed by: Adam O'Brien Starring: Emmanuelle Lussier Martinez, Dawn Ford, Jason Cavalier Go Horror Rating: D Fake thunderstorms are so goddamn annoying. Bury the Devil is the name of the movie and bury it in the bottom of my memory is the aftermath. From the opening scene right through till the end, the pacing was rough and the acting felt amateur. I don't want to completely shit on the movie because I liked the feels-like-a-one-take idea and I sincerely believe the movie suffered from poor casting. There were a few moments where I was like 'ok, that was kinda cool' but man, chill on the thunderstorm and maybe make it so a senior with supposed dementia, isn't moving around like a ninja, looking prim and proper like a standard retiree living her best life. Took a few nights to get through this one.

Directed by: Kristian McKay Starring: Tate Christensen, Diletta Guglielmi, Corin Nemec Go Horror Rating: D I truly couldn't tell you where the focus should be at any given time. Every character felt pointless and a waste of time paying attention to. The story was a spaghetti-mess and that script was bush-league. I can respect some of the acting efforts but for every line landed by Nemec or Christensen, it felt like there was 5 minutes of unwatchable garbage. It's disappointing because I was hoping the aesthetic and grunge of it all would lead to a low-budget homerun, but this film was out at the plate.

Horror & Hot Sauce is a perfect mix! There isn't much out there that beats good eatin' and watching movies. Firing up the old VHS adds to the feeling, almost like it was back in the Blockbuster days. Tonight we've got nachos with Torchbearer's Zombie Apocalypse Sauce, and we're watching both Mimic and The People Under the Stairs. Rewatching Mimic was great... I feel like I get this movie playing at least once every couple years due to my undying love for 90's horror. There was a certain darkness and tension back then that rarely gets replicated in horror released after the 2010s. The People Under the Stairs will forever be in that classic conversation but I'm glad I watched it first. As much as I love it and after seeing it so many times, it's a little hard to stay fully invested, especially with a belly full of cheese and hot sauce. As for the sauce, we're giving it:

Directed by: James Ashcroft Starring: Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott Go Horror Rating: B It gets a bad wrap but it's a great cast and I found it effective and convincing. Just try not to talk to anyone who read the book because then this movie may as well be the worst thing ever released. Calm the fuck down, it's OK for it not to be perfect. I tend to appreciate anything that feels dark and sombre and it certainly delivered, especially going in blind.
