Today we try: Fury Hot Sauce's Al Pastor & Buffalo Dill and Charred Lime. We're going a little retro today, firing up the N64 and playing Doom + Quake 2! Doom 64, one of my favourite games for the N64, a lot heavier on horror than the originals. Still makes me a little motion sick but every now and then it's worth it. Taking place in the aftermath of Doom II, a powerful entity known as the Mother Demon revives the dead, forcing us back into chaos. From the Unholy Temple to Outpost Omega, the game was the hardest yet with great puzzle solving and gore. Quake II isn't a proper sequel. We fight the Strogg, different factions and creatures than in the original Quake. You play through different military complexes and zones, actively dismantling the aliens and their headquarters. It's a totally different feel but worked amazingly well in the time period of 007, Perfect Dark, Doom, Duke etc... ______________ The Buffalo Dill sauce is alright but there's something really sharp in it. It's almost cilantro-y but... not. I can't really put my finger on which ingredient it is but IMO it limits how you can use the sauce. It's marketed as a wing sauce anyway so as long as you stick to something like that, it can pop in and out of the rotation as something different and not much heat. Fury's Al Pastor is significantly better. This sauce is a little hotter but with a greater mix of flavours. We mainly tried it on Mexican style foods and it was awesome on all of it. For people who don't love cilantro it doesn't overpower which is nice, and if you're into citrus heavy rather than vinegar, this one fits the bill. Directed by: Simon Glassman Starring: Kevin Singh, Allison Bench, Ahmed Ahmed Go Horror Rating: A What a rippin' Canadian movie, eh? This was so unconventional and unhinged that I still think about bits and pieces almost 2 weeks later. Watching everything unfold through old school TV commercials and having things get progressively more insane was right up my alley. I had tons of laughs and kept wondering what the hell was happening, but not in a shitty way... more of a 'there's no way this gets even more nuts' kind of way. Advertising satire, small town competition with a corporate giant, and culty, blurred reality all mixed in to make this movie a total trip. Absolutely loved it!

Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is determined to turn it into a tourist destination, despite local stories of curses and haunts. As he may or may not succeed in various ways, the locals were right and a mix of wild and bizarre events begin to occur. This horror-comedy is a masterpiece. From Rhys, Root and O'Flynn to Gilpin, Carroll, Hiller and Dickey - the performances were incredible and the story was thrilling, funny, and frightening in all the right ways. I read somewhere that it blended elements of Twin Peaks, What We Do in the Shadows, and Jaws. That's a ridiculous, yet awesomely accurate description as far as I'm concerned. Great comedic timing, awareness and expression really make this show unique. It also keeps you on your toes and slaps you around a little when you get too comfortable. I loved it and plan to watch it all over again over the holidays. It deserved all the awards and recognition that it received. Here's hoping season 2 is as good or better. Production is targeted for 2027.

If you're not a fan of A24 (The Lobster, Midsommar) then you just plain suck. If you're not a fan of Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, Blue Ruin) then you also just plain suck, but maybe even a little more. If you are fans of either or both, you'll appreciate this recent teaser on their upcoming movie called Slayground. World of Reel provides a bit more information about the upcoming movie. They detail, “Slayground takes its title from the haunted attraction where the lead character works.” The outlet dives in further, “the plot follows Cory Michael Smith’s character, the primary suspect in a mass murder investigation, after he escapes police custody. An exclusive announcement from Fangoria that Shudder has acquired The Adam's Family's new movie The Glorious Dead out of Fantastic Fest. This is stellar news because this family and their movies have been nothing short of terrific. If you were a fan of Hellbender, Hell Hole, Where the Devil Roams, or Mother of Flies - there's a good chance this one's going to be just as good! Toby Poser and John Adams are incredibly creative in their DIY directing. They make movies with great themes and raw execution. Their daughters Lulu and Zelda Adams also deliver fantastic performances to help ice the cake. If you like that underground feel with a ton of heart and vision, then their resume of films will fill that void and deliver a great watching experience. “Nothing feels better for this family than being welcomed back into our greater Shudder fam!” says Toby Poser. “This is our squishy, bloody, happy place, and we can’t thank the Shudder team enough for allowing us to bring our apocalyptic, monster-ridden, wild winter romp to the best horror audience in the world.” Stay connected through Fangoria and Shudder for more information leading up to its 2027 release.

Directed by: Zach Cregger Starring: Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis Go Horror Rating: S Jesus Christ... Cregger does it again with another absolute banger. Resident Evil from a gaming standpoint may go down in history as the best horror series of all time. I'll admit that the original movies will always have a place in my heart because I'm such a die-hard fan of the IP. I could get through the original 6 movies and the first remake despite all their flaws, and still enjoy myself. But this... especially on the big screen, kicked my ass in the best way. We went in with crazy anticipation because Cregger is already widely known as a master horror director and the fresh take on the series felt intense from the first teaser onward. Locked and loaded with junior mints, gummy feet and a large soda... we were not disappointed. Take note that this movie was barely an hour and a half but from the opening scene to final WTF, the movie was (chef's kiss) a master class in pacing and feel. There were no cheap jump scares, the environment flowed and stalled in perfect segments. The monsters weren't overdone and the nods to the games were satisfyingly done. Abrams really stole the show... what a perfect casting for this role. Frantic, comedic, scared shitless - he made it feel real and adapted perfectly from situation to situation. Even the supporting cast knew their assignments. No bullshit, strong delivery and helped firm up the entire movie. And I love me a winter setting... blood and fear always work well in the snow! This is the best live action RE movie and it's not particularly close. Cregger hit this one out of the park and we're already salivating at the idea of a sequel. Give this man an unlimited budget and let him cook.

Directed by: Daniel Stamm Starring: Carla Gugino, Lou Taylor Pucci, Katharine Isabelle Go Horror Rating: D When a movie is this rough with that cast, you know the writing was horseshit. If you're in the mood for something with an incoherent plot and is about 15 minutes too long, grab some popcorn and load this one up. It feels like every 20 minutes there's a ridiculous shift in the story and in the end I couldn't even tell you what the hell it all meant. I guess I could... but the point is it just fell flat. The only thing consistent about the movie was Gugino's best efforts and although there were glimpses of 'oh that was kind of cool', it took me 3 nights to finish this because it was such a slog. It wasn't as complex as it wanted to be and I just can't see myself ever bothering to watch it again.
