An ambitious and admirable debut from Gregg, but the twist and ending were too much of a reach to leave any real impact. Laura (Riseborough) delivered and was far-and-away the main reason this movie succeeded. I almost think that a store-bought ending would have benefited the movie more. The unraveling and dread of a mother and family who've lost a child isn't a groundbreaking concept, but takes near-perfect execution to stand out from the pack. A gaslighting and secretive husband with a touch of spiritual and psychological darkness all work well together but that's about as far as this movie goes. It was enjoyable to watch... once.
