Review - 28 Years Later (2025)

Updated: Sep 11, 2025

Directed by: Danny Boyle
Starring: Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes
Go Horror Rating: B
I hate that I didn't love this movie as much as I wanted to. The original is one of my favourites of all time, and I even loved 28 Weeks Later, but Boyle left me a little disappointed. I enjoyed it, but it just never felt like it knew what it wanted to be. Parts of the story and some characters felt abandoned at different points in favour of monster cocks and track-suit ninjas. Nothing felt truly satisfying and any dread or grit from previous movies was non-existent with this one.
Don't get me wrong, there are still some engaging backdrops and settings. Fiennes is excellent and The Bone Temple is certainly a highlight, but it feels like this film was repressed, possibly to spread out over the next two films. Just feels like a piss-off to neuter 28 Years Later when this should have been a top-tier comeback to the franchise. As a massive fan of the '28' movies, I'm still on the positive side overall, but I really hope it cleans up in next year's release.
